160 perform in DanceFest

It was a night of pirouettes, croisés and pliés during the annual BVI DanceFest on Sunday at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, where young dancers took the stage at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium to showcase what they’ve learned over the past year.

“These dancers will perform en pointe after the waltz, then the Dying Swan will finish with a fast-paced finale of pirouettes,” said emcee and BVI Dance School alumna Alecia Penn before the sixth act of the night.

Then six dancers took the stage dressed in black feathered costumes to perform four parts of a swan saga.

Ethiopian Airlines Wins Awards for “Best Entertainment”, “Best Cabin Service” in Africa

June 14, 2022 (ENA) Ethiopian Airlines has won the 2022 APEX Regional Passenger Choice Awards for “Best Entertainment” and “Best Cabin Service” in Africa.

According to a press release of Airline, the award ceremony was held in Dublin, Ireland, recognizing airlines in various regions for providing the best passenger experiences as rated by passengers.

For this year’s award, over one million flights were rated by passengers across more than 600 airlines from around the world using a five-star scale.

Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe cedes 76,4% stake

LISTED cement manufacturer, Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe (LACZ) has entered into a binding agreement for the disposal of its 76,45% stake to Fossil Mines Private Limited.

The development follows months of negotiations with different suitors who were bidding to acquire the stake.

The Barbados Celtic Festival is back with live Scottish music from visiting musicians, next week from May 11 to 15.

Pipers and drummers from Scotland and Canada will join the Barbados Defence Force for a colourful street parade through town from 3:30 p.m. (Jubilee Gardens – Golden Square Freedom Park) on Saturday, May 14, moving on to Blakeys on the Boardwalk for a packed evening of free entertainment from approximately 4:30 p.m.

Caribbean countries that live in fear of being blacklisted by the European Union should band together and take legal action, according to Barbados-based economist and Caribbean policy expert Marla Dukharan.

“I felt like there should be some legal recourse that should be pursued collectively,” Ms. Dukharan said on Feb. 23 on the regional livestreamed show “Territories Talk,” hosted by Shaina Smith-Archer, chairwoman of the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association.

British TV Series Features Bermuda Character

A new British television series –  titled Sister Boniface Mysteries — has just been released and features a character named Sergeant Felix Livingstone who is said to be from “Hamilton, Bermuda.” Sergeant Livingstone is played by Nigerian/Irish actor Jerry Iwu, and the Bermudian character in the TV series speaks with a somewhat indefinable accent.
