The North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) was the dominant confederation when World Athletics staged its awards in Monaco, last week.

Topping the list was Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah, who was adjudged Female Athlete of the Year.

At the Tokyo Olympics, Thompson-Herah, won both the 100m and 200m, respectively, repeating her 2016 Olympic victories in Rio, 2016. The gold medal victory in the 4 x 100m in Tokyo was a bonus to her achievements.

MONROVIA — The Government of Liberia says it is targeting to bring back home 10 signature investments and deals at this year’s Expo 2020 in Dubai with the projection of over US$1 billion.

Liberia is among over 190 countries participating in Expo 2020 currently ongoing in Dubai with a pavilion in the Opportunity Zone.

Expo 2020 Dubai is a six-month event that runs from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, bringing together 1.2M expected visitors and over 190 participating countries.

Paris, France , March 1 – Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy was found guilty of corruption on Monday and handed a three-year prison sentence after a court in Paris convicted him for trying to illegally influence a judge during his time in office. 

The sentence includes two years suspended, which means it is unlikely Sarkozy will physically go to prison.   

He is almost certain to appeal and remains free, with no arrest warrant issued.

Paris – Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy was found guilty of corruption on Monday and sentenced to three years in prison, a stunning fall from grace for a man who for five years bestrode the national and global stage.

A Paris court found that Sarkozy, 66, had tried to bribe a judge after leaving office, and to peddle influence in exchange for confidential information about an investigation into his 2007 campaign finances.

“He took advantage of his status and the relationships he had formed,” presiding judge Christine Mee said.

WASHINGTON – A rehearsal for U.S President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration scheduled for Sunday was postponed because of security concerns, Politico reported late on Thursday, citing two people with knowledge of the decision.

The rehearsal is now planned for Monday, according to the report.

Biden’s team also cancelled an Amtrak trip from Wilmington to Washington planned for Monday due to heightened security concerns, the report added. Biden will be inaugurated on January 20.

The presidential inaugural committee declined to comment on the report.
