The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc on Thursday announced that all its African subsidiaries are now on firm footing as they have been contributing maximally to the group’s profit margin.

The bank said its African operations, specifically, have contributed close to 50 per cent of the group’s earnings, leveraging on digital offerings and products across the board to gain large market shares across the different regions of operations in Africa.

At least, 20,802 out-of-school children including girls and Almajiris in three local governments of Katsina State will benefit from N332,833,000 support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as part of efforts to improve school enrollment in the state.

The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to declare a state of emergency on all forest reserves in Owo, Ondo State, to aid the arrest of the attackers of the St. Francis Catholic Church in the town.

The House directed the police to intensify the search for the perpetrators of the attack, which claimed about 40 lives.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Timehin Adelegbe (APC, Ondo) on Thursday during the plenary.

The Nigerian bourse, Nigeria Exchange Limited, will in 2023 begin the use of blockchain technology for settling trade across its platform in a bid draw young investors, CEO Temi Popoola said, according to a Bloomberg report Friday.

“For a lot of young and upcoming Nigerians, that is the kind of technology they adopt and we want to see how we can deploy it to grow our market,” said the NGX head.

Over 2,000 voters have yet to cast their votes at PU 004, Bonugo Primary School, Kwali as of 12:00 p.m.

This is majorly because the BVAS (Card Readers) has not been functioning for almost an hour.

Voters in the polling units, who turned out in large numbers, have since verified their names on the register and are waiting to vote, their frustration visible.

A member of the cabinet of Kwali Area Council, Aliyu Adamu, told PREMIUM TIMES that the BVAS had not worked for over 40 minutes.

An agent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was seen buying votes in the ongoing FCT area council elections on Saturday.

The agent was seen coercing voters, mostly women and young men, to vote for the APC candidates in PU 003, Kwali Yammah/Viewing Centre, Kwali.

He was handing out pieces of N200 notes to the voters.

Gunmen attack police station in Anambra

The Divisional Police Station, Uli, in Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra, was on Friday attacked by some yet-to-be-identified assailants.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the gunmen launched an attack on the community on Thursday but were repelled by a combined team of policemen and vigilantes.

According to the source, the gunmen later regrouped and attacked the police station in retaliation for the humiliating experience.

Confirming the incident, Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, said the attack was foiled.

APC proposes amendments to own constitution two weeks to national convention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to amend some sections of the its constitution about two weeks to the national convention.

This was contained in a statement by the interim National Secretary of the party, John Akpanuodehede, in Abuja on Friday.

The governing party said it arrived at the decision after considering the relevance of its constitution to the current realities within its fold.

The national convention of the party is scheduled to hold on February 26.

Some voters at polling unit 031 of the Kuje Central area council are yet to cast their votes due to the malfunctioning BVAS (Card Readers) as of 10:10 a.m.

Those who have successfully verified their names on the registers pasted at the unit were not allowed to vote because the BVAS could not identify their faces.

Awwal Mahmud, the presiding officer, said they were having issues identifying voters in the BVAS.
