Tanzanian novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah has been awarded The Nobel prize in literature, for his “uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents”.

He becomes only the second black African writer to win the prize since Wole Soyinka in 1986.

Gurnah, who grew up in Zanzibar and arrived in England as a refugee in the 1960s, has published 10 novels as well as a number of short stories.

A man who armed himself with two guns after losing a fight at a strip club has been convicted.

Police intercepted the vehicle that Jason Ferguson was traveling in near St. Barnabas Church and seized an Austria-Glock-21 and an Austria Glock-30 S with 31 live rounds of ammunition on August 24, 2018.

The firearms were found in plain view on the center console of the Chevy Cruze that was driven by Ferguson’s co-defendant Herbert Mackey.

War crimes suspect Alieu Kosiah shot and killed a teenage boy in Voinjama in 1994, a man claiming to have witnessed the incident, told the Swiss Federal Criminal Court on Saturday.

The 43-year-old—the sixth of seven “plaintiffs” to testify to Kosiah’s guilt since his trial began in December last year—told the three presiding judges that Kosiah led a gang of rebels on a weekly killing spree, a routine that he called “Black Monday.”
