Three years on, Nigeria’s micro-pension targeting informal workers struggles to thrive

The Nigerian government’s ambition of urging informal sector workers to save for retirement when they could barely earn enough to survive today, amid growing poverty and rising cost of living, is delivering a predictable outcome. The government hopes to enroll 8 million people in five years but in three years it has only managed to register 77,689, less than one per cent of the projected figure.

CAF reinstates Sao Tome in AFCON qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reinstated Sao Tome and Principe in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers following an appeal against Mauritius.

This was announced in a statement on the federation’s website on Wednesday.

The Falcons and True Parrots Team will now join Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Guinea-Bissau in Group A of the Cote d’Ivoire 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

Conex Oil And Gas Holdings Ltd Takes Over Total Liberia & Total Sierra Leone

MONROVIA — With immediate effect, Conex Oil and Gas Holdings
(“CONEX”), officially takes over Total Liberia Incorporated and Total Sierra Leone Limited. The former TotalEnergies affiliates will now be referred to as Conex Oil & Gas Liberia and Conex Oil & Gas Sierra Leone respectively.

On March 6, 2020, Conex Oil and Gas Holdings Limited signed an agreement with TotalEnergies for the acquisition of Total Liberia and Total Sierra Leone. The deal is now concluded and Conex takes over all assets of TotalEnergies in both countries.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 1 – Regional health officials have officially unveiled the Eastern Africa Regional Collaborating Centre (EA-RCC) in a move aimed at stepping up the fight against emerging and re-emerging disease threats in the region.

The centre to be based in Kenya has been operating within the Africa Centers for Disease Control (CDC) framework with an objective to ensure effective preparedness and response to current public health threats in the context of COVID 19 and beyond.

Brazzaville, Congo, Oct 1 – Just two percent of the population, or less, have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus in half of the countries in Africa, the World Health Organization said on Thursday.

Fifteen of the continent’s 54 nations have managed to vaccinate at least 10 percent of their people, achieving the global goal for September 30, set in May by the World Health Assembly, the world’s highest health policy-setting body.

THE 61st edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) kicked off today (Tuesday) after a one year hiatus due to Covid-19 outbreak.

The annual trade showcase was last year postponed twice before finally suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
