NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 9 – Directors of Purma Holdings Mary Wambui and Purity Njoki presented themselves in court Thursday after escaping a police dragnet on Wednesday night.

They have wanted over Sh2.2 billion tax evasion and a warrant of arrest was issued against them last week when they failed to appear in court and instead sent their accountant.

The two arrived in court on Thursday morning, covering their faces, while accompanied by lawyer Nelson Havi.

This follows a dramatic escape from Weston Hotel in Nairobi on Wednesday night where detectives had laid wait.

NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 9-US President Joe Biden has nominated former Hewlett Packard (HP) Chief Executive Officer and president Margaret Whitman is popularly known as Meg as America’s ambassador to Kenya.

Whitman is listed as a major donor to Biden’s campaign having contributed $500,000 to his victory fund last year, according to reports in CNBC which describes her as a “big money political donor.”

Once the nomination is confirmed, Whitman will replace Kyle McCarter who served under the tenure of former president Donald Trump. He left in January this year.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 8 – Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s quest for the presidency has been endorsed by top Mt Kenya leaders and tycoons who have vowed to also support his Azimio La Umoja Initiative.

The leaders have pledged to attend Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja convention at the Kasarani Stadium.

A joint declaration read out by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, during a meeting of Mt Kenya Foundation leaders, said the region will fully support Odinga “because we want a leader who will steer President Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy.”

NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 8 – Aspirants seeking seats in the 2022 election have until December 9 to do fundraising.

The Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati said anyone violating the law will be locked out of the electionn.

“Aspirants cannot participate in fundraising either by themselves or proxies within eight months to the election period, being December 9, 2021. The import being to curb aspirants from influencing voters by donating funds and monies for support,” he stated.
