When Tapo Chimbganda was first living in St. Catharines, she said she had a tough time fitting in.

“I was quite isolated,” she said. “It was difficult to find people who looked like me, especially in terms of services.”

That’s why she’s opening a chapter of her not-for-profit organization Future Black Female at 105 James St.

Chimbganda started Future Black Female in response to her feeling that black women and girls between the ages of 16 and 22 can often fall through the cracks.

SOUTH AFRICA: The Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) launched legal action to challenge Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP).

The ZEP, which ended on 31 December 2021, will not be extended.

Those with a permit have a 12-month grace period to either apply for another type of permit or leave the country.

Motsoaledi’s decision was supported by Cabinet.

Leeroy Gotami, a former De Montfort University student died in May, aged 22.

He had been a popular student and a friend to many, leaving a “huge void” in the lives of those he interacted with. He had completed an Audio Recording and Technology degree at DMU with his mind set on a career as a radio presenter.

CALLS are growing louder for a constitutional amendment to allow for diaspora vote ahead of next year’s general elections.

Former Ntabazinduna Chief, Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, added his influential voice to the calls saying unless the more than five million Zimbabweans domiciled in the diaspora are allowed to vote, the election would be a nullity.

The number of talented Kiwi sporting kids heading to the United States on college scholarships is growing by the year, and Southland provides some glowing examples. Logan Savory reports.

Atipa Mabonga’s parents signed her up for almost any sport available as a kid.

It wasn’t so much about the sport itself, there were other reasons.

Close to 20 years ago the Mabonga family moved from Zimbabwe to New Zealand for a new life.

Atipa was four at the time.

A Doncaster family have given beautiful tributes to a “kind and loving” dad initially diagnosed with indigestion who died of cancer two months later.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Stuart Simpson died at the age of 56 after being diagnosed with stage four bowel and liver cancer. After experiencing pain in his side in April 2022, he went to the doctors, where he was diagnosed with indigestion and given peptides as treatment.
