This week, Dutch multinational Ekaterra Tea Company suspended its operations in Kericho, Kenya’s South Rift region, after militant residents invaded two of its estates and burnt mechanical tea pickers, harvesters and a tractor.

When Tapo Chimbganda was first living in St. Catharines, she said she had a tough time fitting in.

“I was quite isolated,” she said. “It was difficult to find people who looked like me, especially in terms of services.”

That’s why she’s opening a chapter of her not-for-profit organization Future Black Female at 105 James St.

Chimbganda started Future Black Female in response to her feeling that black women and girls between the ages of 16 and 22 can often fall through the cracks.

LISTED agricultural concern, Ariston Holdings Limited, has suffered a 22% tea volumes export decline on the back of Covid19 related shipping logistics disruptions.

Presenting the group’s financial performance Ariston’s Chairman Alexander Jongwe said the export volumes did not perform so well.

SOUTH AFRICA: The Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) launched legal action to challenge Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP).

The ZEP, which ended on 31 December 2021, will not be extended.

Those with a permit have a 12-month grace period to either apply for another type of permit or leave the country.

Motsoaledi’s decision was supported by Cabinet.

TOBACCO sales have so far recorded a 11,64% decline when compared to the same period last year, signifying reduced yields this selling season as effects of poor rains in the last selling season took a toll.

A recent Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) trading update shows that on day 49 of the selling season a total of 9,1 million kgs was delivered on the auction with an additional 129,9 million kgs on the contract farmers platform.
