COVID-19 Update: 87 new cases recorded

Eighty-seven people, 40 males and 47 females, tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, June 16, from the 436 tests carried out by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. The cases comprised 16 persons under the age of 18, and 71 who were 18 years and older. There were 24 people in isolation facilities, while 1,040 were in home isolation. As at June 16, there were 471 COVID-19 related deaths. KATS to host boating camp

Virgin Islands students have a chance to learn about boating next month — for free.

Throughout July, the youth programme Kids and the Sea will host four one-week summer camps for ages 10-16 at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s Centre for Applied Marine Studies and other venues on Tortola.

Each session will accommodate 28 students, who must have competent swimming abilities and be comfortable in the water, according to KATS, which is hosting the camps with support from Unite BVI and HLSCC.

After two years of muted celebrations during the Covid-19 pandemic, plans are underway to hold the August Emancipation Festival from July 24 to Aug. 5 under the slogan “Celebrate Freedom for Me and You, BVI Festival 2022,” the Virgin Islands Festivals and Fairs Committee announced Tuesday.
