Addis Abeba, February 10/ 2021 – Vital Strategies, a leading global health organization which works with governments to design solutions to some of the world’s most challenging health problems, today announced the opening of a new office in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, Vital Strategies said in a statement sent to Addis Standard.

The company said that while it has worked in Ethiopia for years, its new office in Addis Abeba gives its greater opportunity to support critical health initiatives, supporting its partners in improving health outcomes and overcoming emerging health challenges. “We’re better poised to build on and learn from the vibrant community who are taking on the next generation of health challenges that Ethiopians know all too well, including COVID-19 and other infectious threats, to road injury and noncommunicable disease,” said Dawit Bisrat, Country Director, Ethiopia Office. “I am honored to take on the role as our first Ethiopia Country Director, and see great potential to strengthen partnerships, foster global collaboration and seek new evidence and knowledge that will help people to live longer, healthier lives.”
Ethiopia joins Vital Strategies network of global offices which includes Jinan, New York City, Paris, São Paulo, and Singapore. “As a trusted partner of governments and civil society around the globe, Vital Strategies has managed $131 million in worldwide programs touching more than 73 countries, with the goal of supporting governments rapidly adopt life-saving interventions and policies,” the statement further said.
The Ethiopia office will focus on responding to COVID-19 response, improving cardiovascular health, preventing road injury and supporting civil registration and vital statistics, among other initiatives. The expansion will allow the organization to enhance its engagement with governments, change-makers and advocates with deep local knowledge to strengthen public health systems by designing and supporting scalable solutions to leading causes of death, disease and injury.
