DREAMS program to chart economic pathway for local young women, new Labour Market Assessment shows

The U.S. government-funded DREAMS program, in unison with the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service this week launched a Labour Market Assessment Report which identifies economic growth sectors, and occupational and entrepreneurship opportunities for adolescent girls and young women in the country.

Youth Organisations join hands to foster peace, tackle societal ills

Rob Youth Foundation (RYF) has joined with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) to promote basic youth tenets including peace among the youth in Namibia and beyond its borders. IPYG is a non-profit, non-government organisation which believes young people can bring peaceful change in the world.

The Foundation is premised on similar principles that are geared at youth empowerment, sensitisation and health awareness to name a few.

Tracing the foot-prints of a small-scale fisherman in Henties Bay

The Namibia Marine Ecosystem Services for Marine Spatial Planning (NAMares), a joint research project between the University of Namibia (UNAM) and Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, recently took a trip to investigate small scale fishery in Henties Bay.

UNAM in a statement said this activity forms part of the project’s ecosystem services’ case studies and complements the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources’ strategic focus on small-scale fisheries and their importance towards food security and poverty eradication.

Rural youth enterprises receive financial assistance from Development Bank

Twenty-eight rural youth enterprises recently received funding valued at N$8 million from the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN).

A DBN cheque was handed to the Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service to provide the kick start to the 28 start-ups at a ceremony officiated over by the Prime Minister, Hon. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila last week.

Speaking about the significance of the initiative at the official hand-over ceremony, the Prime Minister said that the 28 enterprises are part of a wider initiative to provide funding to 121 rural youth enterprises.

Communities of Sikondo and Masivi in the Kavango West this week received markets constructed by the Kavango West Council.

Member of Parliament and Kapako Constituency Councillor, Johannes Karondo handed over the markets and reminded the communities of the Council’s commitment to improving the lives of inhabitants by creating market access infrastructure which will immensely impact their livelihood.

The Oranjemund Town Council (OTC) and Namdeb Diamond Corporation this week have jointly unlocked the impasse on the sale of properties in Oranjemund, following the inking of a settlement agreement.

In a statement on Wednesday, both parties said the move will ensure a smooth transition toward social progression and the future sustainability for Oranjemund.

Windhoek city fathers hand out land occupation certificates in the Havana-Moses Garoeb Constituency

Mayor of the City of Windhoek, Sade Gawanas handed over a total of 1120 certificates of land occupation on 4 June, to the Partick Iyambo and Gabes Shihepo areas in Havana-Moses Garoeb Constituency.

The municipal authority said the certificates of land occupation ensure the registration of the informal structure and acknowledgement of occupation of the piece of land occupied.

Changesmakers ensure that the Hope Village community is snug and warm during winter nights

Forty-five Capricorn Group employees, in their role as Changemakers recently donated over 90 blankets, 100 socks, beanies, scarves, gloves, toiletries and nappies, to over 70 children and caretakers at the Hope Village in the Goreangab community.

Pupils of Onaushe Combined School in Uuvudhiya constituency, Oshana region on Friday welcomed a new block of four classrooms and a storeroom courtesy of the MTC Rural Schools Project.

Built at the cost of over N$800,000, and donated in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the classrooms will ensure that learners at the school are taught in a conducive environment.
