Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has dared the Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti to arrest him over claims that he is a suspect in an international criminal syndicate. This after Mr Kinoti said the senator and officials of Team University in Uganda, where the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial race claims to have acquired a degree, are suspects in an international organised crime syndicate. “We will not surrender our capital city to frauds. We will involve all international agencies in investigating and prosecuting anyone involved in academic fraud,” Mr Kinoti told the Nation. But in his response, Mr Sakaja said he will not be intimidated and dared the DCI boss to make good his threats. "Threats of arrest and persecution by the state will not intimidate us or change the will of the people of Nairobi. Our resolve remains firm. Bwana DCI Kinoti, I'm at my Riverside office, karibu or let me know if you'd like me to come over," Sakaja said. "Your office will not install a project on the people of Nairobi. My qualifications are legit and the relevant institutions have refused to play along with your games. Let the people decide," the senator went on. Mr Sakaja has been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest for the top county seat but is currently battling several petitions touching on his academic qualifications. The petitions include those questioning his academic qualifications and specifically a degree he says he acquired from Teams University in Kampala. The said degree has since been revoked by the Commission for University Education (CUE). If found guilty of forging his academic degree certificate and transcripts, Mr Sakaja faces a three-year jail term. But even as the embattled senator fights to clear his name, he has received support from Deputy President William Ruto, who on Thursday lashed out at the authorities, demanding that Mr Sakaja be left alone. “I am telling my competitors and my former (political) party Jubilee. Please leave Sakaja alone,” Ruto said during a campaign rally in Nyamira County. “Sakaja has gone to school and we have seen his papers. Stop taking him round in circles. The deep state and system are making calls all over the place. They have even called State House in Uganda while looking for means to stop Sakaja from contesting for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat,” the DP said.

Former Nairobi Diaries cast member Mishi Dorah is still languishing in jail, more than two weeks after she was charged in court for failure to settle a huge bill she accumulated on expensive drinks at an entertainment joint in Nairobi. The actress-cum-socialite, who is famous for posting huge alcohol bills on social media, was on June 3 arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts for failing to pay a Sh152,550 bill at Golden Ice Bistro in Nairobi on the night of May 26 and the morning of May 27. The court was told how the accused, whose real name is born Dianah Clara Ojenge, was served with two chicken breasts valued at Sh3, 000, one cocktail valued at Sh2000, two bottles of 300ml soda valued at Sh500, a one litre bottle of drinking water valued at Sh400 and three bottles of an energy drink valued at Sh1,650. The accused is also reported to have ordered six bottles of Bellaire Luxe 750ml valued at Sh75,000and seven Hennessey VS 750ml valued at Sh70,000 which she took with a group of friends by falsely pretending that she would pay a fact she knew to be false. She was granted a Sh100,000 bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh50,000, but two weeks down the line she is yet to secure her freedom. Her predicament has attracted the attention of her fellow cast member on Nairobi Diaries, Stacy Vugusta aka Pendo, who is now appealing to her fans to help her raise money to bail out Mishi. PHOTO | COURTESY[/caption] Pendo made the appeal in a post on social media under the hashtag, #FreeMishiDora. Interestingly, Pendo herself was in a similar situation in 2020 when she arraigned in a Mombasa court for failing to pay a Sh208,000 hotel bill. Apparently, Pendo accumulated a bill of Sh330,000 at the luxurious English Point Marina hotel in Mombasa but only settled Sh145,000 with a promise to clear the balance of Sh208,000 within two weeks. But the hotel management declined to accept her offer and instead detained her at the facility while demanding full payment. The two-week period elapsed without Pendo paying the remaining amount even as the bill continued accumulating. The management then decided to report her to the police and she was arrested and arraigned in court. She is said to have checked into the hotel in the company of an unidentified man believed to be her lover. The two spend a few days together at the high-end hotel before the man allegedly abandoned her. She denied the charges in court and was subsequently released on a cash bail of Sh35,000 with an alternative of Sh100,000 bond. The court gave her six months to clear the bill.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja on Friday presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters with a protest letter following reports of a looming arrest. In his letter to the DCI boss George Kinoti, through Mutuma Gchuru and Associates Advocates, Sakaja said he has not received any summon from the DCI. His protest was prompted by an article in Daily Nation where Kinoti was reported to have said Mr Sakaja and officials of Team University in Uganda, where the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial race claims to have acquired a degree, are suspects in an international organised crime syndicate. Also, in his letter, the Nairobi gubernatorial candidate wanted to know if the detectives had already concluded their investigations regarding his degree. However, the senator was turned away with the National Police Service saying no police action was taken since Mr Sakaja had not be invited. Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso also dismissed reports that had been shared on social media to the effect that Sakaja had been arrested. “He was cordially received by officers and turned and turned away since he had not been summoned. He, therefore, left without any further police action,” Shioso said. The UDA gubernatorial candidate had earlier in the day dared Mr Kinoti to arrest him, saying that his degree certificate is genuine. Mr Sakaja is blaming his political opponents for his troubles, saying the questions that are being raised about his academic credentials are politically instigated. He has specifically accused President Uhuru Kenyatta and his ruling Jubilee Party of working to ensure that he doesn't become the city's next governor.

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has now summoned embattled Nairobi Senator Sakaja to provide proof for his degree which he claims to have acquired from Team University in Uganda. The commission maintains that the academic credentials of the senator who is eying Nairobi governorship on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket remains revoked until he can prove their authenticity. CUE chair Prof Chacha Nyaigotti has said that the commission received complaints challenging the authenticity of Mr Sakaja’s degree despite having cleared him a week ago. “The commission received complaints from members of the public and civil society casting doubts on the authenticity of the degree certificate submitted to CUE by Hon. Sakaja. The gravity of the matters raised, made the Commission to revoke its decision to recognize the degree qualification in Kenya pending further investigations in liaison with other relevant investigative agencies,” Prof Nyaigotti said. Now, CUE has asked Mr Sakaja to provide material evidence proving his academic qualifications among them admission letter, student ID, transcripts, receipts of tuition fees paid to Teams University, graduation photos and list of lecturers who taught him at the institution. “Further, the Commission has invited Hon. Sakaja to attend a meeting on Monday, 20th June 2022 at 10.00 a.m. in order to provide further information that can aid in the investigations,” the CUE boss said. Earlier Senator Sakaja turned the heat on Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti who earlier claimed the senator is under investigation for fraud. Mr Sakaja presented himself to DCI Headquarters on Friday evening but was turned away as police said he was not under arrest. The Senator maintains he is being targeted politically. “I am being intimidated because I want to be governor of Nairobi. I will fight this in the political arena to the very end,” Senator Sakaja said. Prof Chacha also said that the commission will blacklist universities involved in issuance of fake degrees as he reiterated that President Uhuru Kenyatta is not involved in the certification process, as earlier alluded to by Mr Sakaja.

Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz has made history in East Africa after his Waah video was viewed 100 million times on YouTube. The video, in which he appears alongside Congolese rhumba maestro Koffi Olomide, was released on November 30, 2020, and so it took just 14 months to reach 100 million viewers. Waah is the third video from Diamond Platnumz to reach 100 Million viewers. Others are ‘Yope Remix‘ which has so far been viewed 178 Million times as well as ‘Inama’ which has so far been viewed 104 million times on music platform. In addition, in the ‘Waah‘ video which was so popular that President Uhuru Kenyatta was at one times seen dancing to it, Diamond Platnumz was able to set a variety of records including ‘Waah’ viewed one hundred thousand times within an hour, a record that Harmonize came to break through his ‘Attitude’ video which was viewed 100,000 times within minutes 44 only. The song also managed to set a new record in African music after reaching 1 Million viewers in just 8 hours and thus surpassing the record of Davido whose ‘Fem’ video was viewed 1 million times within 9 hours. It should also be noted that Diamond Platnumz is the leading artist in sub-Saharan Africa with 6 Million followers on his account as he has been viewed 1.6 billion times on YouTube.

Janet Mbugua: Healing is not easy

Janet Mbugua has appeared to lift the lid on the challenges in her private life by sharing an elaborate explanation on how 'healing is a messy journey'.

The media personality, captioned a black and white photo of herself on Instagram with the message, “Healing is messy and you will have good days and bad. Some days you’ll be in good form, some days you won’t. The secret is being kind to yourself as you dance between the two.”

In another post, Ms. Mbugua emphasized how everyone is trying to be the best they can be, and in no way, shape, or form does that make one a bad person. “We’re all just trying to get by best as we can. It doesn’t make you a bad person, a poor leader, a terrible parent, an insensitive sibling, an ungrateful child, a difficult colleague, a distant friend...at that moment you’re in bad form,” she continued.

The author of ‘My First Time’ wound up saying that healing takes time and the people around you should understand the season you are currently in and let you heal.

“Just remember, healing takes time. Let the people around you understand, just like there’s always time for pain, there’s always time for #healing...You are not alone,” said the media personality.

At the beginning of the year, the mother of two took to her social media pages to remark that she is leaving excess baggage behind and focusing on the things that replenish her. In a lovely photo of her with her sons heading to board a plane on new year’s, Ms. Mbugua noted that the moment symbolized her resolutions for the new year, with her focus being her sons.

“This picture speaks several mantras for me. I’m moving forward, I’m with the centers of my universe, I’m leaving behind any excess baggage, I’m looking to the skies for a brighter day, I’m building up to face big ideas and put in the work (and kicking some butt too!), I’m stepping into the future with hope, faith, cautious optimism, self-actualization and I have God watching me. What I hope, is that you ALL manifest this and so much more, going into 2022,” read her post.

The media personality has had her fair share of controversies, ups, and downs, most of which always found a way into the public scene. In one such incident, it was reported she and the father of her kids had agreed to part ways. Soon after, the baby daddy was fingered in an incident in which he's accused of assault.

However, she goes above and beyond to keep her private matters under wraps and live a life away from the public eye.

Kenyan men appear to have raised their standards this love season, with some 'warning' their women lovers they expect much more than socks and boxer as gifts this Valentine season.

The campaign by men is led on social media by former journalist George Ndirangu, whom, via a post on social media, penned a poem that focuses on the Valentine season.

“I wrote a poem titled, Socks for Valentine's? not again! Enjoy.

“Roses are red, violets are blue, Valentines is coming, and ladies…please no more sweaters and socks from you! Everyone’s thinking outside the box this year, if flared pants made a comeback, so can you, my dear. And men, it’s not 1990 anymore, being scruffy and ashy is not as manly as it was before,” read part of the journalist’s poem.

Ndirangu's complaints mirror what a majority of men in Nairobi have been highlighting in the past couple of years.

Most say they receive 'cheap and undeserving gifts from their better halves during occasions such as Valentines, birthdays and anniversaries.

The men, on the other hand, find themselves going above and beyond to impress their ladies with extravagant gifts.

“We insist, please no more socks this year,” wrote Ndirangu who's worked as a producer and news presenter for popular media houses.

Celebrated on February 14 each year, Valentine Day originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.

Eric Omondi on Wednesday bundled up himself in a glass cage outside Parliament buildings and started what he said was a hunger strike aimed at imploring lawmakers to pass a bill in support of local content airplay. The comedian was carried while locked in a transparent case with a bold writing labelled ‘Play 75 percent’. He said he would not leave the Parliament building until the Bill is debated on how local music will get at least 75 per cent of airplay. “This is a hunger strike and I will stay here until the lawmakers debate the matter. When you came here tomorrow (Thursday) you will still find me here. I’m not going anywhere until the MPs start this conversation,” he told journalists at the venue. He argued that his previous methods aimed at convincing stakeholders to to see to it that 75 per cent of Kenyan music is played locally had been taken lightly. “I’m here to champion local music to be played in all media stations so am here to ensure that they will pass that bill,” he said. Omondi was last year arrested after staging a demonstration calling for the same at the same venue. “Last time I was here alone and no artistes stood in solidarity yet I’m pushing for their interests,” he complained. His protest drew the attention of some lawmakers including Dagoretti MP John Kiarie, Charles Njagua, Babu Owino and David Sankok who promised to push for the passage of the bill. Kiarie has since promised to follow up on the matter. “Your visit to parliament is very timely because there is an amendment bill coming up. Eric, you and I were involved in the writing of the copyright bill and our biggest gain was Section 35 that was protecting any artiste against exploitation. “Let’s all understand the industry and know that the music industry is bigger than Skiza only. Congratulations Eric, you are a star. We are taking the bill to the parliament,” Kiare said.

Dennis Itumbi has offered to help the taxi driver who is reported to have rescued him following his recent abduction and taken him to hospital. The controversial blogger visited Boniface Makokha on Thursday to thank him for his actions on December 23, 2021. Itumbi is reported to have been abducted by unknown people who are yet to be arrested. He was then tortured and left for the dead at a bush near Lucky Summer from where Makokha is said to have rescued him stark naked, clothed him, and taken him to Uhai Neema hospital. "I must admit if it were me driving and came across a naked man at that hour I would have hesitated to stop. For you to stop and listen to my predicament and taken me to hospital is beyond call of duty. You are one selfless man," said Itumbi. Makokha, a taxi driver said he acted how he would expect anyone to do at that moment and he did not help Mr Itumbi out of knowing him but an act of help to a fellow human being. "I was headed home when I saw a naked man talking to bodaboda operators and on close inspection I saw it was a man in distress and I offered to help," he said. Itumbi is set to host a thanksgiving mass at his home church in Gichugu on Sunday, where he is also expected to announce his bid to vie for the area parliamentary seat.

Sabina Chege has sensationally suggested that President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto benefitted from a rigged election in 2017. The Murang'a Women Representative made the claim at a campaign rally in Western Kenya. But she did not share proof. "I've heard some people here saying we rigged (the elections) here, there's some truth in it," said Chege, a close ally of President Kenyatta.
